Venue
Waverton to North Sydney
Participants
Ron, Chris, Richard, Helen, Natalie, Colin, Peter
The start
We met at Waverton station at 9.30am - Morning tea stop first up.
Points of Interest
-Waverton Green and HMAS Waterhen, a naval base, were passed as we walked down Balls Head Rd
-at the end of the Naval base is a restored area known as the Coal Loader. A prize winning park area has been created around the site of the disused machinery that once loaded coal that was sent across the world. The decaying old wharf can still be seen as can the tunnels that were part of the process. A number of boards explain the history of the area.
-a walk through the bushland of Balls Head Reserve gave us wonderful views of the city on such a clear sky day. Yvonne missed seeing her friends the Bush Turkeys!
-we continued around the point and down to Waverton Park. We could see the boat building business across the bay.
-from here it was up hill past interesting buildings, a great big sandstone church, private schools and into North Sydney
The finish
- The day ended with lunch at a café in North Sydney and then walk across the Harbour Bridge to Circular Quay before a train, bus or ferry ride home.
Distance walked
- Approximately 7 Km
