April 2017
Met: Wynyard Bus Stand B at 9.30. Bus left at 9.40am
Participants - Ron, Chris, Helen, Richard, Colin and Natalie
Points of Interest:
- A beautiful sunny day! This was a great start after we had to cancel the March walk twice due to rain.
- Bus was empty when it pulled up so it was nice to have seats together all the way.
- After about an hour on the bus we alighted near Bungan Beach.
- Walked up a short road to our first vista looking north to Bungan Beach. Access to this beach is via a steep path at the north end. Glad to be on top of the headland!
- Over the Mona Vale Headland Reserve we could see Basin Beach, The Rock Baths and Mona Vale Beach.
- A short walk down to the sand and up to the Surf Club for morning tea approx. 11.00.
- Along the way heaps of seaweed littered the beach.
- After morning tea we walked along the sand to the south end of the beach. The tide was too high to walk around the rocks to Warriewood Beach so we went up the steps then into a bit of bush over the headland.
- A steep walk down to Warriewood with some sections having a rail to help.
- The track continued past the surf club and up to a stone lookout at Turimetta Head. There were spectacular views back north from where we started our walk. Chatted with a friendly trainee teacher who was having a nice quiet morning until we arrived!
- There was a well-marked path through trees and shrubs to a grassy area at Turimetta Headland, then steps down to Turimetta Beach. Walked along the beach that was littered with blue bottles and then up the steps at the southern end of the beach.
- A bit of a rest before the last trek into the bush of the headland. More steps!
- Chatted with a gentleman having his lunch and admired the view at the lookout.
- As we neared the end of the cliff walk we had our first view of Narrabeen Beach.
- With the end in sight we walked down the steps and through some muddy areas to get to the road and bridge across the entrance to Narrabeen Lakes.
- Lunch stop at a café in North Narrabeen. Lovely food and some cold drinks.
- A flat 20 minutes walk to Pittwater Road passing some huge houses, only a few with charm, but all trying to get a view!
- Only had to wait 5 minutes for the bus! After a slow trip back to the city of about an hour we alighted at Wynyard to bid our farewells.
The views out to sea and along the coast were spectacular today and reminded us of why we have the best beaches in the world.
