February 2021 Report
Venue
Bulli to Thirroul
Participants
Ron, Chris, Helen, Peter, Richard, Natalie, Colin and Yvonne joined us for lunch.
The start
The group met on the train from Sydney to Thirroul and then changed trains to Bulli.
Points of Interest
- from the station we walked up the hill to Willcath St and then walked down towards the water. We admired the many flowering trees and the older style houses which had been maintained and/or renovated. A resident suggested we take the side lane and end up walking past the schools and down to the beach.
- we enjoyed morning tea at the Bulli Beach Café.
- from here it was along the beach to Sandon Point and then along the walking track past impressive new homes. A few surfers and beach goers took advantage of the perfect summer day and the inviting water. Several plaques recalled persons who had lost their lives in the area. There was also a ‘trig’ point and a plaque explaining the workings of the Bulli Jetty (1863) that once stood below the cliff.
- From Sandon Point Beach the path led us past McCauley’s Beach then up the hill to Thirroul, past the monument to D H Lawrence and down to Thirroul beach. Then we made our way from the beach to the Club Thirroul (Bowling Club) for lunch. Ron and Colin met Yvonne at the station.
The finish
After lunch it was back to the train (2.48pm) and return to Sydney
Distance walked
Approximately 7 Km
