Coincidently we all met on the 506 bus for first section of our walk this month. The group enjoyed morning tea at Hunters Hill and then set off on the first part of the Great North Walk.
The track took us around the magnificent grounds of St Joseph’s Private School and then into the parklands and natural bush of Boronia Park. We stayed near to the edge of the Lane Cove River and its tributary, Buffalo Creek. Mangroves, ferns, flannel flowers and other native spring flowers filled the bush. Pete even spied a bush turkey and its huge nest. Later on he saw a couple of white cockatoos high in the tree.
The day was warm/hot and we needed a few stops for refreshments. On through Magdala Park, under Epping Road and we entered the first part of the Lane Cove National Park. We passed through a section called Fairyland. Apparently this was once a large pleasure area but has been returned to the bush. After crossing under Fullers Bridge the group found a welcome picnic area for lunch.
