April 2013 Report
After alighting from the Rivercat at Parramatta and crossing Gasworks Bridge to the northern side of the river, six of us set out to walk to Kissing Point. The day was a perfect autumn one with temperatures rising to about 27c.
The path generally followed the course of the Parramatta River, however, at some points needed to move through streets of factories or suburban houses. It was interesting to note the bird life, the mangrove swamps and the movement of the ferry up and down the river. Other walkers and many cyclists also used the path, some sections of which were only opened in 2011.
We had our lunch in a very pleasant park at Meadowbank before completing the last section to Kissing Point. Along this part of the path were a number of plaques telling us about the first church and school in the area, the Squires brewery and the life of the aborigines who lived along the river’s edge. We understand Bennelong is buried not far from here.
Pete tells us we walked 12.1K at an average speed of 4.6kph!! Just as well the path was pretty flat and we didn’t know the distance to start with!!!!!!!
