Circular Quay, Barangaroo and Darling Harbour
Thur 4th May 2022
Although we met for lunch last month, this was the first walk we have had since Dec 2021 when we went to Watsons Bay so it was wonderful to stretch our legs.
The group met at Circular Quay Station at about 9.30am
Participants - Ron, Chris, Helen, Richard, Peter, Colin and Natalie
The pictures show cloud to the north and east and brighter blue skies to the south, almost like it was 2 different days!
Along the way-
*Morning tea stop inside the new AMP building.
*Walked around the block heading up Bridge Street to Macquarie Street to look at some historic photos around building renovations.
*Walked along the Cahill Expressway noticing all the new skyscrapers, particularly the new AMP building.
*Down to street level and we looked at the murals on the walls of the bridge.
*The gymnasium was open air with a huge roof so the courts could be used in all weather conditions. We spoke to a lady who said that the murals were originally done when the bridge was built and they are heritage listed.
*Continued towards Barangaroo and peered over the railing fence to see the progress of the Metro Station.
*Continued around and down the headland noticing how much all the plants had grown up and all the beautiful sandstone colours.
*Had a look inside the Crown Casino and of course used their toilet facilities. The gents felt the toilets were only a 9 out of 10 rating because there was no view!
*The building where the old Imax used to be is still not finished, but looks very innovative in its design. It will make a great skate ramp!
*Finally we made it to a spot where we could sit down for lunch. This was the precinct where the old Entertainment Centre used to be and could be loosely described as a food hall with seats outside. We had toasties or hamburgers all done a bit differently and all very tasty.
*Peter walked back to catch a bus home and the rest of us slowly walked back up to Central where we caught trains or buses home approx at 1.30pm
*Our legs were very tired and by the time we got home that cup of tea was most relieving.
Time taken - 4 hours from 9.30 to 1.30 including morning tea and lunch stops.
Distance - 8km! Well done to all of us. When we started we were not sure exactly how far we would go or even where our feet would take us on this first walk.
