November
2014 Report
Venue
The fifth annual trip to the Blue Mountains, staying for the second time at ‘Kipplaw’ at Leura.
Participants
Ron, Chris, Peter, Yvonne, Natalie, Colin, Jenny, Richard and Helen
The start
We all arrived around 11am at our accommodation and enjoyed morning tea brought by Chris and Natalie. After this we headed up to the shopping area for lunch.
Highlights
On the Thursday afternoon three of the group went to the Blue Mountains Cultural centre at Katoomba to look at the Brett Whiteley exhibit. The selection showed some of his works depicting areas west of the mountains around Oberon and Carcoar. The second room shows the history and scenery of the Blue Mountains area itself.
The rest of the group went on a short walk to the Gordon Falls Area.
Up early Friday morning, packed our lunch and headed off to the Conservatory hut for a walk along the cliff top to Wentworth Falls. What wonderful vistas of the valleys and peaks of the mountains - great sandstone cliffs, small trickling streams, dainty little wild flowers, soaring birds and fellow walkers. Once at the falls we headed back up towards the first picnic area and then a kilometer more to the car park and a picnic lunch.
After a welcome cup of tea/coffee some rested, some headed to explore the shops or walk alone and the rest walked to Leura Cascades.
Our self prepared dinners on both nights were a chance to share our recent travel stories as well as catch up with news of other family and friends. Special memories of Doug were recalled.
The finish
Saturday morning saw all hands on deck to prepare bacon and eggs for breakfast before we cleaned up and started our trip back to Sydney. Natalie and Colin visited the Everglades and the rest of us took the Bells Line Road stopping at Bilpin for morning tea.
A wonderful three days and more to come in 2015
