Circular Quay to Rhodes Thursday 7th September 2023
The group met at Circular Quay for the 9.37 ferry to Olympic Park Wharf. Participants - Chris, Peter, Yvonne, Helen, Colin and Natalie.
Another stunning day, bright blue sky and very warm.
Along the way- *Ferry trip some sat upstairs on the roof of the ferry and others sat inside. *Walked about 1.5km to The Armoury Wharf Café along the Paramatta River beside the Newington Nature Reserve. *Spied some beautiful Red Rumped parrots on the grass. *As we neared the Armoury we found many panels to read about Aboriginal history. *Morning tea stop was delightful as we were seated outdoors but sheltered from the sun. *Walked past, in and around many of the Armoury buildings. *We noticed the very thick concrete blast walls between the buildings and massive earthworks around them. *Continued walking through the large grassed area and found some unusual bin shaped objects that were for disc (frisbee) golf. The following is from the internet. “The Armory Disc Golf course was established in 2006 and has been Sydney's primary permanent course ever since. Originally there were 9 baskets, however in 2014 it was upgraded to 18 permanent baskets.” *Walked back along the Louise Savage pathway through the Narawang Wetlands to “Woo-la-ra, an artificial hill (22m high) created when cleaning up the area for the 2000 Olympics *Arrived at Wentworth Point and walked over the Footbridge to Rhodes. *Found a small food court inside Rhodes Central for lunch. Many choices of food with an Asian theme mostly. *Rhodes Central was across from the train station where we departed for trains or bus and walk home.
