October 2013 Report
Venue
Huntley’s Point to Kissing Point
Foreshore Walk and the Walaba Track
Participants
Ron, Chris, Peter, Colin, Natalie, Richard, Helen
The start
Meet at Circular Quay 9.30am for the 9.52am ferry
Highlights
- A few of the ‘Tall Ships’ in Sydney for the Naval Review could be seen from the ferry.
- The beautiful, old, sandstone buildings of the Gladesville Hospital now house a mental health unit.
- Banjo Paterson restaurant had wonderful water views. Was it once the residence of Banjo Paterson, the poet?
- Bays filled with boats and yachts of all sizes were right along the track.
- There was a plaque to commemorate what was to be part of the Great North Road. The road was built with convict labour.
A punt used to operate from this point.
- Housing was a mixture of original 50’s style with many very modern up market dwellings.
The finish
- A quick bite to eat under shelter as we waited for the early ferry – 1.20pm. The rain had spoiled the day but not the friendship and travel stories we shared.
- Thanks to Peter for researching the outing as we could not have found the track without him!
- The walk was 7.5 kms and our elevation varied from 24 m to 0m above sea level.
