December 2015 Report
Venue Three days at the Blue Mountains staying in ‘Kipplaw’ at Leura
Participants: Ron, Chris, Richard, Helen, Colin, Natalie, Yvonne
The start Day 1 – The group gathered together at ‘Kipplaw’ about 11.30am for morning tea and a catch up chat. Because of our various travels and then inclement weather in November we had not met as a group for a while.
Points of Interest Day 1 – The girls went grocery shopping and brought back the goodies for lunch. In the afternoon most of us went ‘gift’ shopping and came back to see what each of us had bought. The boys cooked the BBQ and the girls got the salads ready for a yummy dinner.
Day 2 – A drive to Mt Victoria and then down to Mt Piddington lookout. We walked on the track down to a viewing point which gave us such a magnificent vista of the Kanimbla Valley. A broken tree branch seemed the ideal walking stick for many! A short detour to the left gave another wonderful view of the valley. After morning tea we drove to see Pulpit Rock and then some of the group walked the Zig Zag track to try and find a cave. Unfortunately access was not easy. A picnic lunch was enjoyed in the Mt Victoria park and then it was off to Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens. Blueberry scones with lemon butter were a treat before an hour spent exploring the gardens. A quick trip to the shops for supplies and then back for drinks and a ‘Christmas’ dinner.
Day 3 – Natalie cooked her special scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast before the group headed to Wentworth Falls. From the Conservation Hut we walked on a ‘medium’ track around the rim of the Jamison Valley. Just like the previous day, there were wonderful views of the mountains and valleys and gorgeous wildflowers of all colours to appreciate. We crossed streams and climbed stairs and enjoyed the company of each other. Morning tea at the hut and then back to ‘Kipplaw’ for lunch. In the afternoon we walked to Leura Cascades picnic area and then down the track besides the falls to the end of the cascades. A persistent white cockatoo was fun to watch on the way home! Last minute shopping and our final night together.
The finish Day 4 – Natalie again spoiled us with eggs and bacon. Everyone pitched in to ensure we left ‘Kipplaw’ as we found it and around 9.00am we headed for home. We missed Peter who was unable to join us due to family commitments.
