Our happy group met on the South Coast train and travelled through the Royal National Park to Coalcliff. As the name suggests, there is a coal mine on the side of the escarpment.
We walked down through the sleepy village to the Sea Cliff Bridge and walked right to the southern end. This section of Lawrence Hargraves Drive was built out over the ocean as it was often subject to rock slips. The views to the north and to the south are spectacular. Morning tea was enjoyed in the park opposite the Clifton School of Arts (1911).
From here we headed further south passing quaint older style cottages that used to dominate the area but which are now often replaced by very modern homes taking advantage of the sea views. There are several spots along the road where car loads of tourists can admire the coast line.
Past Wombarra beach to Coledale where we decided to have lunch. Several campers enjoyed the park and some adults ventured into the surf for a swim. From here it was on to Austinmer, time for a cup of coffee and then head to the 2.52pm train back to Sydney.
