St Peters and Newtown Walk
Thursday, 1st June 2023
The group met at a St Peters station at about 9.30am.
Participants- Chris, Peter, Yvonne, Colin and Natalie.
See you next time Helen and Richard-hope you are feeling better soon.
Along the way-
*Café stop right at the station-looked very new and the waitress said it had been open for about 8 months.
*Walked around Sydney Park at St Peters and found wonderful ponds, birds, eels, some flowering shrubs and many people walking their dogs.
*None of us could really remember what it was like the last time we did this walk (which we think was 2013, so 10 years ago).
*There were sections of stepping stones over ponds and both concrete and dirt paths weaving around both sides of the park.
*On the return loop there was a steep hill with great views back to the city and Botany Bay.
*At the bottom of the hill was a skate park and an area designed for children on bikes to learn how to navigate roads etc.
*We walked along some beautiful streets with terrace houses and huge street trees-all very artistic and interesting.
*Newtown PS had a large veggie garden and a great scarecrow as well.
*There was some street art, one of which had a play on words. The old shop front was called Picknchews and was opposite a wall mural of Pikachu from Pokemon.
*We found our way to Newtown and had lunch at a café on the corner of King St And Enmore Road, arriving just after 12pm-very noisy but good food.
*We were back on our way home to the station about 1.15pm. Chris, Peter and Yvonne caught the train to Redfern or Central and Natalie and Colin walked back to Erskineville Station to go back to Canterbury.
Time taken 9.30 to 1.15-just under 4 hours
Distance-about 4.5km
