November Walk
Sculptures By The Sea drew the group back to the Eastern Suburbs for the November walk. We caught the bus to Tamarama this time and walked towards Bondi. It was morning tea time at the beach cafe and then time to admire the many sculptures on the beach front. There was the frog on the bike, the rustic looking garbage bins with signs for each public holiday, the giant doll like face on its side and the igloo like structure on the sand, covered with brightly coloured swirls.
Along the path to Bondi we passed a large ‘view’ sign in bright red, two metal made roosters, a giant structure covered white cloth, a white plastic spoon midden, pink penguins and many other interesting sculptures with names depicting the artist’s interpretation. The park near the Bondi end showcased many more sculptures and it was here that this year’s winning entry caught our eye. It was a tall, curved object which seemed to be made of cement and through which you could look to the ocean beyond. (The artist may not agree with this description.)
From Bondi the group walked along the water front and took the bus route to walk up the hill to Military Road. We found the way to the cliff tops and admired the towering cliffs along this part of the coast. We stopped in Dudley Paige Reserve for lunch with the fantastic view of the city in the background. From here it was back to the cliff tops and in and out of the local streets as we made our way to Watson’s Bay. The day was warm but the cloud cover and the gentle breeze helped to made it a very pleasant and interesting day out. We caught the ferry back to Circular Quay and headed off home. Walk distance was about 10 Km.
Next month we are off to the Blue Mountains for a couple of days.
