Another sunny day perfect for walking.
Along the Way:
- Morning tea stop in a local café.
- Walked through the mall and followed some streets uphill to Brush Farm Park, which was part of the estate of Brush Farm bought by Gregory Blaxland from William Cox in 1807.
- Looked at the imposing Brush Farm House which was built from 1820 and extended in 1894.
- Walked through the Correctional Services Training Facility where we found a memorial to officers who have died on duty.
- 1st part of Terrys Creek on the western side of Eastwood-a short section following a creek bed.
- Walked around the remains of the Great Northern brickworks, started in 1912 and closed in 2001 when it was bought by AV Jennings for a housing estate.
- Walked back down towards the station passing by Marist Brothers High School with a large playground on the top of the multi-story building.
- Saw a funny house with lots of gnomes and other garden ornaments.
- 2nd part of Terrys Creek walk on the eastern side of Eastwood.
- A marker near Vimiera Park indicated that work was carried out here for the Great North Road from 1829-1831. Although there was a modern bridge here, you could also see the foundations of the original convict bridge.
- Heard lots of bird calls. Especially noticeable were the kookaburras laughing at us, perhaps!
- Admired the pretty moss covered stones and a small waterfall along the way.
- There were many sections where work by local bush care groups was evident.
- The bushland included some remnants of old forests including huge Blue Gums which have a smooth trunk. There is less than 5% of the original vegetation, including the blue gums, remaining from the Sydney region.
- Crossed the creek and walked back along the other side of the creek.
- Walked back along the streets towards Eastwood when we decided to catch the bus for the last section.
- Caught the bus at 1.32 to Eastwood Station. (courtesy of Opal card reading!)
- Lunch about 1.45pm at the Eastwood Pub.
- Train or bus 2.45pm for our home destinations.
