Report - August 2022
Location
Kogarah and Botany Bay area
Participants
Ron, Chris, Helen, Richard, Natalie, Colin, Peter
The start
We met at Kogarah railway station and had morning tea at the Coffee Club
Points of Interest
- we headed down Montgomery Stand then into Hogben St before using the overpass to cross the Pacific Highway and walk down President Ave. It was here we noted the heavy construction sites associated with the extension of the F6. The corridor was detailed many years ago and at this stage will only develop to this point.
- we crossed The Grand Parade and then walked south beside Lady Robinsons Beach. We noted La Perouse, the container terminal and the airport runways to the north and Kurnell, Towra Point, Cronulla and the tall buildings of the Shark Park complex to the south.
- the Bayside Council has improved all the areas beside the Bay beaches in recent years including new toilets, active/play areas, parking places and the walkway itself. They are well used by various community people from near and far, particularly in the warmer months. The bathing sea baths are closed presently and are to have new netting around them.
- we walked up Ramsgate Rd passing a variety of supermarkets and food shops. The group had lunch at the Ramsgate RSL all choosing a meal from the daily special list.
The finish
- as the day was very overcast the group decided to catch the bus back to Kogarah station and then train it home.
Distance walked
-7 Km
