April 2016 Report
Participants; Ron, Yvonne, Natalie & Colin
Start: Met at Circular Quay (09.30) and grabbed a quick coffee before catching a ferry to East Balmain wharf.
Followed the "Balmain East" historical walk which lists 41 Points of Interest, mainly houses, shops and hotels built between 1840 and 1875. A rare view of Goat Island was obtained from Simmons Point Park, originally the site of the Adelaide Steamship Company wharves. The walk back up to street level was reminiscent of Lombard St, San Francisco and is called "The Zig Zag".
After a tasty counter-lunch, during which it rained quite heavily, we were able to return to the streets and completed the "Ewenton Walk". The 27 points of interest included Balmain PS, St Augustine's churches (Old-1848, New-1907) and the oldest brick house (1839) still standing in Balmain.
Finish: The walk brought us back to Gladstone Park where we caught buses for Town Hall and Campsie.
Distance: 6 km (estimate)
