We met at the bus terminus at Railway Square and walked a short distance to the ABC building to have coffee, cake or sausage roll.
Points of Interest
- Met Myf Warhurst (from Spics and Specs) in the ladies at the ABC. The men missed out.
- Walked along the re-developed old goods line track behind the ABC building
- The Dr Chau Chak Wing Building designed by Frank Gehry for UTS. (The building is named for Australian-Chinese businessman and philanthropist Dr Chau Chak Wing, who donated $20 million to the project, along with an additional $5 million for Australia-China scholarships. Dr Chau Chak Wing’s son studied architecture at UTS. Ahaaa!)

- Convention Centre-4 theatres varied sizes for conventions 800 to 8000 seats and a ballroom
- Passed the Aquarium, King Street wharf area, the backstreets of the south Barangaroo development and the empty space for Packer’s Casino
- Passed some billboards explaining the removal of coal tar, which was a by-product of gas generation at the Millers Point Gasworks. The Gasworks enabled Sydney’s first gaslight network from 1841 to 1918. There was a distinct smell of gas in the air.
- Finally to the south edge of Barangaroo where we followed the path around and up the ramp to the top
- Beautiful sandstone edges (10,000 crafted blocks) leading down to the water.
- Great views across to Balmain and Birchgrove
- Wonderful plants (75,000 native plants) and grassy areas.
- Lunch and cold drinks at an old fashioned pub called the Palisade Hotel
- Walked back down and around to Dawes Point
- On the way used the amenities housed in a lovely heritage listed building, which was an old sewerage pumphouse relocated to its present spot. Lots of talking and laughing going on as the cubicles had open tops. The men made such a lot of noise!
