Location - Southern Highlands – Robertson
Madison Park - 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 living areas and fantastic views out over the many acres of the ‘rolling pastoral setting’ of the farm
Participants
Ron, Chris, Helen, Richard, Natalie, Colin, Peter, Yvonne
The start
We arrived within a few minutes of each other at the Mittagong Southern Highlands Visitors Centre. After discussing with the staff some possible areas to explore we moved to the ‘Glass’ café for morning tea. Yummy lemon cake or date scones with cream and jam!
Points of Interest
Monday 24th
-as the day was wet with low cloud, we missed all the Gibraltar Lookouts and headed to Woolworth Bowral to shop for supplies. Then it was off to Madison Park, Robertson for three nights. After our salad rolls for lunch, the afternoon was spent chatting and catching up on the recent happenings.
-chicken salad with fruit pastries and ice cream for dessert.
Tuesday 25th
-around 9.00am we drove to Fitzroy Falls, parking in the area near the Visitor’s Centre. It was necessary to follow the path under the road where our first sight was the fast, running water over the weir. Further along the river we could hear and then see the 81 metre cascade of water of the Fitzroy Falls. A walk along the track gave us more great views of the falls and the valley below.
-back to the Visitor’s Centre for a bit of shopping and to ask for information re other Falls.
-to Burrawang Village (a little village with a fabulous vignette!) where we admired the various homes and gardens. The Hotel was not open for lunch.
-we returned to the Robertson Hotel for coffee and freshly made donut bites with ice cream.
-to the Cheese Factory complex for a wander and small purchases and then back to Madison Park for salad sandwiches for lunch. During the afternoon some walked up the hill to photograph the Waratahs and others walked down and along the creek.
-our Christmas dinner was a lovely BBQ and salads, along with Plum Pudding and ice cream.
Wednesday 26th
-eggs fresh from the chook house for breakfast and then off to Carrington Falls. These Falls dropped 90 metres and looked spectacular after all the recent rains. We walked the loop and saw black Cockatoos and Waratahs along the track. Other pretty wildflowers were also seen
-a short drive to the other side of the valley brought us to Nellie’s Glenn. Here the water rushed over a ledge and into a pool before continuing downstream. We then walked about 600m to Wallis Chair to view more falls and look down into the valley.
-to Bundanoon for lunch and then we explored the small village.
-some returned to Madison Park via Exeter (an antique shop and the post office) and then to the Robertson pie shop. Others went via the Robertson plant shop.
-a great dinner of everything left in the fridge!
The finish
Thursday 27th
-breakfast, clean up, pack and then goodbyes before setting off for home. Some headed off straight to Sydney and others went via Bowral.
